"You have women in particular looking at this situation with her daughter and saying, 'How could you put her through this, you knew she was pregnant, you accept this nomination and you know what's coming for her,' " said Debbie Walsh, director of the Center for American Women and Politics.Source: San Francisco Chronicle.
This line of reasoning is just downright silly. First of all, I am a woman, and I don't blame Palin for putting her daughter "through this." I blame the media for going after this young girl whose pregnancy has no relevance to her mother's qualifications in this race. They are putting Bristol "through this", even snapping photos of her in sweatshirts disembarking from her school bus. Are they hiding in the tall bushes to get the shots? Sarah Palin probably assumed, and rightly so, that the media would not target a young girl's private life this aggressively. After all, it's a political first. It's just bizarre.
So should all women who have pregnant 17 year old daughters quit their jobs? Is that what is being argued here by some women? What message would that send to Bristol? Forget VP. Should Palin resign as governor because her daughter is pregnant?
Sarah Palin's historic candidacy makes her a role model for her daughter and other young women.
